Western is the country’s largest but most sparsely populated state. The majority of its 1.8 million inhabitants live in the South West corner in the city of Perth and Fremantle, which has a population of 1.4 million. The state covers some 2,525,500 square kilometers and due to its massive size its climate varies enormously from full tropical in the north to almost reaching the roaring forties in the south. It is a state of many contrasts with the landscape ranging from desert, through lush rainforest, temperate grasslands alive with wildflowers, rich agricultural and tall forests to the hustle and bustle of a vibrant coastal city with fabulous beaches, great accommodation, superb restaurants and an exciting nightlife. Western Australia is certainly a place to be included in your next holiday itinerary and Western Australian tours will take you to see some of the world's most beautiful natural attractions.
If you travel south from your Perth accommodation there are many places of interest to visit during your holiday. The wine growing region of Margaret River is not far away. Here you can improve your golf game while enjoying wonderful resort style Margaret River accommodation and enjoying the local wines and seafood. The southern regions of Western Australia are noted as one of Australia’s best Cray and Lobster fishing regions and towns like Albany, Esperance and Bunbury all have fleets of boats dedicated to capturing these tasty little critters. Also in the South West are the magnificent Karri and Jarra forests which provide some of Australia's finest hardwoods as well as being an awe inspiring sight for the tourist. Both Busselton and Esperance, both have a reputation as fantastic tourist destinations.
As you travel north from Perth along the coast you will encounter some of Australia's most visited tourist destinations. The Avon Valley with its fabulous wildflower displays, the coastal towns of Geraldton, Kalbarri and Carnarvon and the fabulous "pinnacles" desert. Slightly further north brings you to the Coral Coast and sensational attractions such as Ningaloo Reef where you can swim with the whale sharks or Monkey Mia where the local dolphins swim right in to the beach to be hand fed by the local visitors. Other important towns in the region include Exmouth and Port Headland which provide a railhead and port facilities for the states booming mining industries. This region is known as “The Pilbara”.
Traveling further north you will reach one of Western Australia’s most iconic Tourist regions, “The Kimberley”. This area is renowned as having some of the world’s most spectacular scenery. The coastline is bordered by an array of islands through the Buccaneer Archipelago and the local rivers flow through amazing sandstone chasms into the sea. The fishing is world renowned and the local wildlife including crocodiles is abundant. The Ord river irrigation scheme is another must see attraction as is the Bungle Bungle Mountains with their unique beehive shaped sandstone ramparts. The major centre in the Kimberly is the city of Broome. You will find plenty of Broome accommodation in quality motels and resorts as well as lots of fine restaurants if you like dining out. The day can be completed with the famous camel ride along the beach. There is also a lot of historical interest in Broome with its past firmly rooted in the pearling industry.
The remainder of the state is known as the "Outback". This vast region is home to a large slice of Australia’s huge mining wealth. Diamonds, Iron Ore, Gold, Uranium, Copper and many other precious metals are found here. Cities such as Kalgoorlie have thrived on the mining industry for over a hundred years and are still productive today.
Many of the outback regions demonstrate the true culture of the Australian persona and there are many wonderful things to see and experience if you have the time. A Western Australian motor home or campervan holiday is the ideal way to see this great state.
