What to expect

You'll meet your guide at dusk and spend the first hour in a sheltered spot with refreshments while learning about the rookery's ecological importance and turtle behaviour. Once darkness falls, you'll walk the beach in small groups wearing red-light torches to spot females emerging and nesting—this requires crawling through sand and staying low to avoid startling them. The pace is slow and patient; sightings aren't guaranteed but likely during nesting season. Afterwards, you'll spend time stargazing with provided equipment. Bring binoculars and warm layers; the beach wind picks up after sunset. Moderate fitness helps with the sand walking.
